The Col·legi d’Aparelladors, Arquitectes Tècnics i Enginyers d’Edificació de Barcelona (CAATEEB) [Association of Quantity Surveyors, Technical Architects and Building Engineers of Barcelona] will be presenting the conclusions of the latest European BIM Summit online at EBS Day 2021, due to be held on February 4 at Roca Barcelona Gallery.
The event, which will be streamed live via the Zoom platform beginning at 5:50 pm, will feature the participation of Roca Group, Main Partner of the European BIM Summit, and the Departament de Territori i Sostenibilitat de la Generalitat de Catalunya [Department of the Territory and Sustainability of the Government of Catalonia] and will be presenting real-life experiences of the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the industrial sector and in the public administration.
The date of the next edition of the European BIM Summit, which will be held on June 3, will also be officially announced. As was already announced at the Congress in November, the international BIM summit organised by the CAATEEB will be taking on the challenge of implementing a hybrid format; in other words, it will be held simultaneously, online and in situ, at the Barcelona World Trade Center.
The COVID-19 pandemic rendered it necessary to reformulate the European BIM Summit, which in 2020 had to be held entirely in streaming. The experience was very positive, as it was attended by more than 400 delegates from over forty countries from all over the world. It also featured the participation of thirty speakers from highly different geographical areas such as Singapore and Chile.
Digitisation advances five years in one
One of the main conclusions drawn from this European BIM Summit online was the high potential of the virtual format, particularly in breaking down physical distance barriers. This is aligned with one of the realities that emerged from the pandemic: the evolution of digitisation in all areas of society.
The latest report by McKinsey & Company, entitled The next normal arrives: Trends that will define 2021 —and beyond, asserts that digitisation advanced fivefold in the course of the last year, which is particularly noticeable in the AECO sector, where the evident difficulties involved in implementing collaborative work were further hampered by circumstances of force majeure: lockdown and distance.
This matter was addressed at the latest Congress, over ten intense hours that will be summarised in thirty minutes at EBS Day on February 4. The session will be presented by the content director of the European BIM Summit, Ignasi Pérez Arnal. He will be followed by the Project Leader of the European BIM Summit and BIM Leader of the CAATEEB, Rafael Capdevila, who will recap on the lessons learnt from last November’s event and will also refer to some of its highlights, such as the presentation of the three collaborative work documents that will be made available to professionals from the AECO sector.
BIM in the public administration and the private sector
The Secretary-General of the Territory and Sustainability of the Government of Catalonia, Ferran Falcó, will talk about the experience of implementing BIM in the Government of Catalonia’s public interventions; the Roca Group, represented by its Global Projects Corporate Director, Ilker Hussein, and the Project Manager of Roca/Laufen, Jaume Cassanyer, will provide an overview of the use of digital and collaborative methodology from the standpoint of an industry leader.
Finally, there will be a roundtable to discuss the implementation of BIM in the public and private sectors, as well as its future outlook taking the current situation into account. It will be moderated by Sergio Muñoz, secretary general of buildingSMART Spain, a European BIM Summit Content Partner.
Attendance at the EBS Day 2021 is by registration only, free of charge, at this link.
