Presenting the four keynote speakers of the European BIM Summit’s international online Congress

The Col·legi d’AparelladorsArquitectes Tècnics i Enginyers d’Edificació de Barcelona [Association of Surveyors, Technical Architects and Building Engineers of Barcelona] (CAATEEB), Bim Academy and buildingSMART Spain present the only International online Congress about BIM methodology in Europe. EBS+ will feature on November 19 renowned experts from all over the world to debate the latest trends and innovations in Building Information Modelling.

Endorsed by the European BIM Summit brand, this participative Congress will feature three round tablesnine case studies and presentations by four keynote speakers. These speakers are introduced in this article: Tai Fatt Cheng, Souheil Soubra, Jean-Baptiste Valette and Randy Deutsch.

Tai Fatt Cheng

Tai Fatt Cheng is the Deputy Managing Director of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), an agency reporting to the National Development Agency of the Government of Singapore, which is tasked with regulating building safety and leading the transformation of the building sector according to the objectives of safety, quality and sustainability.

The BCA is engaged in what they call the built environment, which includes the buildings, structures and infrastructure in the country that provide the resources for the development of the community’s activities.

The organisation targets the engagement of the entire sector in the common goal of improving citizens’ quality of life, for which purpose BIM methodology has become a core tool.

In the course of its management activities, the BCA implements initiatives mainly in the following areas:

  • The physical environment: smart buildings that provide a more friendly environment to live in.
  • Industry: the challenge is to promote globally successful companies.
  • People: training competent, visionary and respected individuals.

Souheil Soubra

Souheil Soubra is the Information Technologies director at the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment (CSTB) and is also the chair of the EU BIM Task Group. He is a specialist in digital construction, in accompanying the sector’s stakeholders in the digital transition and he also engages in research and the development of BIM applications for practical deployment.

He is also an executive member of buildingSMART International and is involved in BIM standardisation organisations (CEN TC 442, ISO TC 59/SC13) as well as in the French government’s BIM 2022 Plan.

Its remits include accompanying the stakeholders involved in the building sector during the innovation cycle, from the genesis of the idea through to its commercial application, as well as the transformation of the building world in relation to the environmental, energy and digital transitions, in which BIM plays a pivotal role.

The CSTB engages in five key activities:

  1. Research and expertise
  2. Evaluation
  3. Certification
  4. Testing
