Bill East is a serial innovator who creates systems and standards that have stood the test of time. One of these innovation programs, led to the adoption of technical standards forming the foundation of the National Building Information Modeling Standard – United States. Within these standards, the Construction Operations Building information exchange, or “COBie” standard, is most widely known. In a decade since its creation, COBie requirements can be found in design and construction contracts around the world as well as over 30 commercial software systems supporting planners, designers, builders, and facility managers.
Today, Bill owns Prairie Sky Consulting where his team delivers practical solutions for designers, builders, and facility managers based on a Lean Handover™ approach. Bill is Director of the University of Florida’s COBie Academy, the authoritative source for COBie education and training. Bill also Chairs the buildingSMART international COBie Certification Subcommittee. Bill is also Adjunct Professor of Building Informatics at Dublin Technical University.
Bill has BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech and earned his MS and PhD Civil Engineering degrees from University of the Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer and American Society of Civil Engineers, Fellow. Bill is a three-time FIATCH award winner and former American Society of Civil Engineers, Government Civil Engineer of the Year.
