Barcelona, May 25, 2017-The conseller of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Josep Rull, inaugurated this morning the European BIM Summit 2017, a meeting that brings together more than 500 specialists in building this new methodology that now in its third edition. The summit takes place within the BBConstrumat fair.
During his speech the counselor stressed the ability of BIM to reduce costs and gain efficiency in construction as fundamental elements for its implementation in the private sector. For Rull “BIM is important for the government to ensure minimum-deviation budgets and facilitate subsequent maintenance works.”
The opening ceremony was also attended by Isaac Martin-Barbero, president of INECO, an organization responsible for the implementation of BIM in Spain, who stressed the opportunity of the development of BIM to “overcome the dichotomy between the brick economy and the technologucal one “, development that can be used to boost the leadership the country currently has in the field of infrastructures and to boost the construction of the economy of the future, and gave the example of the high speed project British HS2 as a model of how BIM can help internationalize the sector.
On his behalf, the president of the Col·legi d’Aparelladors, Jordi Gosalves, highlighted the role played at the time by the Barcelona BIMCat manifesto, approved in the first edition of the event as a turning point in the implementation of this methodology in our country. For Gosalves, BIM is an opportunity to modernize the sector “avoiding repeating the mistakes of the past” and reflects its commitment to innovation.
Gosalves also thanked the support of the company Roca as main sponsor of the summit and its support in the three editions so far.
The third edition of the European Summit BIM (EBS17), is being henld on 25 and 26 May 2017 within the framework of the Barcelona Building Construmat, the International Construction Fair in Barcelona, and is confirmed as the reference event on Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Europe. The presence of the European BIM Summit within the International Construction fair provides visibility and helps reach ots goal of accelerating the implementation of this methodology in the sector, reaching out to 50,000 professionals and showing them what BIM means.
During the event the latest developments and the impact of this new method based on the management of information generated during the lifecycle of a building will be presented, along wirh the fact that it has become indispensable to achieve a controlled and directed constructive process, improving the quality, efficiency and effectiveness in any project, be it a building or a civil engineering work.
The summit is aimed at managers, technicians and managers of public administrations and the private sector: developers, architectural firms, engineering, consulting services, material suppliers, manufacturers, project & construction managers, directors of execution and facility managers, among others, the actors involved in this cycle, and who mark and shape the course of the construction sector
