Marc McKane Marc McKane

Lecturer in the School of the Built Environment and is Course Director for the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management full-time program.  He has a degree in Quantity Surveying, an MSc in Project Management from Herriot Watt University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Exploring the use that Building Information Modelling (BIM) packages for tracking variations, measuring quantities, preparing estimates, construction programming and any commercial aspect of BIM implementation into the construction industry has positioned Mark at the forefront of BIM training within the NI construction sector, contributing to the CIC BIM Regions events and successfully delivering numerous renditions of BIM training courses to industry including “BIM – The future of Project Information” and “BIM – Supply Chain Assessment”.

Mark has been a member of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) BIM Regions – Northern Ireland Steering Group since it’s inauguration in August 2013 and was Champion (chair) from September 2014 until the end of October 2016.

He has experience working in commercial management of civil engineering construction projects and as a consultant project manager on various building construction projects spanning 15 years.

He moved into education in 2004 and has delivered construction related courses from level 2 (14-16 year olds) up to level 7 (Masters) within the Northern Regional College and latterly within the School of the Built Environment at Ulster University.

He has recently registered to undertake a research PhD on BIM implementation within NI construction sector and has jointly published a number of short papers on embedding BIM within the Higher Education taught curriculum
