Iria Carreira has been implementing BIM technologies in the AEC industry for more than 5 years in various roles. She identified Building Information Modelling (BIM) as a key skill for the future within the construction industry and delivers best practice commercial projects at Lendlease UK. Iria completed her studies of Technical Architect and Construction Management studies at Copenhagen School of Design and Technology, where she specialised in BIM for sustainability researching in her final thesis about BIM application to Net Zero Energy Buildings. Since 2011 Iria has worked in various offices in Copenhagen and London and has delivered projects utilising BIM Level 2 requirements. She currently leads the BIM implementation on the International Quarter development, a major new business district with a £2.3bn value, located at the gateway to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The development of 330 homes, a hotel and over 4 million sq. ft. of office, set to be home to 25,000 employees. She is responsible for developing the BIM strategy and procedure and promoting this to stakeholders. Iria also guest lectures and collaborates at different universities in Spain and Denmark. She participates in industry efforts around BIM implementation as an active member in UK BIM groups and construction excellence groups. Most recently Iria started a collaboration with The B1M translating the videos into a Spanish, called The B1M ES to help spread the UK BIM strategy across Spanish speaking countries.
