MSc in Physics and Electronic Engineer. Senior researcher in TECNALIA Research Centre since 2000. He currently works in the Virtual Built Environment group of the Construction Division, developing innovative processes and ICT solutions to support innovation and competitiveness in the AEC Industry. He is active in different regional, national and European Research Programmes, such as FP7 or Horizon 2020 for more than 10 years.
During his professional career, the main research lines have been related to the development of software solutions and decision support systems for different aspects of the construction value chain, such as building and neighbourhood design and simulation or building process management. The addressed topics and technologies have been based on BIM and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), focusing the use of standards and interoperability across scales (IFC and CityGML). Development of interfaces and interoperability mechanisms with energy simulation engines in the cloud has also been addressed.
HOLISTEEC: an integrated and collaborative platform for performance based building design
HOLISTEEC is a FP7 project aiming the design and development of a BIM-based, collaborative building design platform which supports an innovative design methodology defined by field experts in the project. The platform relies on a unified IFC-compliant data model, taking into account district level influences and it smoothly connects design tools with a set of four multi-physical simulation engines and a KPI system, providing multi-criteria assistance. It provides interoperability mechanisms across domains (design/simulation) and scales (IFC/CityGML).
