France will be the guest country at the BIM Summit 2017

France will be the country hosted in the next edition of the European BIM Summit, to be held on 25 and 26 May in Barcelona.

France plans to contribute to the Digital Economy construction business with a program endowed with 20 million euros dedicated to the creation of a range of strategies, actions, projects, studies and awards to promote and develop BIM environments.

The French government, always reluctant to adopt Anglicisms, has called the document that will govern its strategy the Plan Transition Numérique dans le Bâtiment or PTNB..

In the same manner that the UK was the guest at last year’s European BIM Summit 2016 for its statement as “country BIM” and the fulfillment of the requirements of Level 2 since April 4, 2016, the country hosted at the EBS2017 will be France .

The strategy of this country is different to the British approach. It starts with a study of the future of the planet in 2050: 67% of the world’s population will live in cities (compared with 52% today), there will be a potential market in the construction sector of 1.5 billion euros in 2020 and an export potential of 0.1 billion euros for the same year.

Faced with this situation, it identifies 10 French companies (GDF-Suez, Schneider Electric, EDF, Vinci, Unball-Rodamco, Saint-Gobain, Lafarge, Legrand, Bouygues and VeoliaEnvironment) among the 40 world leaders; together with 5 institutes of excellence (INEF-4, Efficacity, PS2E, Supergrid and FCBA).

In this way, it poses the Industrie du Futur, which the country will require to exploit the nine seams of development, including those that affect the construction sector: digital security, smart objects, the economy based on big data, sustainable cities, new resources … and at the same time it displays five pillars: the development of technology supply, the support of this transformation, employee training, strengthening international cooperation on regulations and standards and the promotion of the French industry. All of which leads to the great challenge:

“Le développement de nouveaux usages numériques dynamite le fonctionnement traditionnel de l’administration et la contraint à impulser en interne une dynamique de changement”.

In short, the digitization of processes -including that of building- will blow up the traditional functioning of public administration –take notice all involved- and shall force to adopt as soon as possible the change of paradigm and to promote change itself..
